In 2015, there were approximately 600 000 deaths registered in France, an increase of 7.3% compared to 2014.
Among those 600 000 individuals, approximately 325 000 have needs which could be addressed by palliative care. According to estimates, 2/3 of them suffer from illnesses or disabilities that significantly reduce their life span to months but still die inside a hospital without the assistance of palliative care.*
Given this situation, the Palliative care fund decided to develop partnerships between different palliative care actors in French society in order to support and guide initiatives that encourage the development of palliative care programs. The goal of the non-profit endowment fund is to choose innovative projects that aim to improve the quality of life of individuals suffering from serious illnesses. Thanks to the generosity of private individuals, companies and foundations, the Palliative care fund is able to support project leaders and their innovative projects as part of a global care approach and also initiates own events or projects.
The Palliative care fund is a non-profit endowment fund that supports, funds and monitors innovative projects in and around the field of palliative care. It is the first and only French endowment fund of its kind established in 2011 and during the first 5 years of its existence, 43 projects have been supported in total.
